NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Hoses and axes are hotter than fat bank accounts, a recent survey found, ranking firefighter the No. 1 sexiest job in the nation.

Brave, uniformed public servants beat out high earners such as doctor, lawyer and chief executive, said Salary.com.

"How could you not find it sexy when a person is willing to risk his life for another's; literally walk through fire," one wife of a firefighter told the Web site.

Flight attendants came in at No. 2, followed by CEO; while reporter and interior designer tied for fourth.

Popular write-ins included dental hygienists, pilots and chefs, Salary.com said. And while they only got a few mentions, a handful of Americans also found parcel deliverers, CPAs and the milkman very, very sexy.  Top of page
