Delta's Song expands West Coast flights
Boutique airline will add flights between Boston and West Coast cities beginning in September.
June 1, 2005: 4:22 PM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Delta Airlines announced that its subsidiary, Song, will offer more transcontinental flights beginning on September 6.

Low-cost air carriers are increasingly expanding out of regional markets.

Song will offer two flights per day between Boston and Los Angeles, and Boston and San Francisco.

It will also be the only airline offering nonstop service between Hartford, Connecticut and Los Angeles.

"Boston, Hartford, Los Angeles and San Francisco are premier travel destinations and we are thrilled to offer new service to customers traveling to and from these great cities," said Joanne Smith, president of Song, in a statement.

Delta's (down $0.03 to $3.82, Research) stock was down 1.5 percent on Wednesday on average trading volume.

Launched in April 2003, Song flights offer unique amenities, including organic food, 24 channels of television, an MP3 library, and movies and video games.

The airline earlier announced flights from New York's JFK International Airport to San Francisco, Seattle, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Aruba.

Delta has been hurting for cash lately. Can they pull it out? Read more here.  Top of page
