NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The adult children of media mogul Rupert Murdoch are reportedly in discussions to give their young half-siblings a share of the wealth from a family trust, but none of the control of the media conglomerate News Corp. that the trust now holds.

A company filing also reported Wednesday that Murdoch's annual bonus could double to as much as $25 million, based upon company earnings.

The Financial Times reports Thursday that the adult children -- Prudence, Elisabeth, James and Lachlan -- are willing to split the proceeds of the trust, estimated to be worth $6 billion, with the children Murdoch has with his third wife, Wendi Deng -- Grace, age 3 and Chloe, age 2.

"This isn't about money," one person close to the adult children told the paper. "It's about control."

The report of a rift between Murdoch and his adult children surfaced last week after Lachlan left his post as News Corp.'s deputy chief operating officer.

News Corp. (Research) chairman Murdoch issued a statement saying he was saddened by his son's decision and that he looked "forward to the day when Lachlan wants to return to our company." He also issued a statement denying there was any rift with or between his children.

"There is no dispute. All my children will be treated equally," said the statement he released at that time to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Last week's report in the Journal reported that the Murdoch children were resisting splitting the proceeds of the trust that holds 28.5 percent of News Corp. stock. It said that split was negotiated as part of Rupert Murdoch's divorce from his second wife, Anna, the mother of three of the four adult children.

One son stays, other to be well paid upon leaving

James Murdoch, the one child of the News Corp. chairman still holding an executive position with the company, told reporters Wednesday he has no intention to leave his post as chief executive of the company's British Sky Broadcasting unit.

"I fully intend to be here for the long term," James Murdoch told reporters as the unit reported that profits there doubled. "It is a strategy that's going to take a lot of work. I'm here. You're stuck with me."

News Corp. also reported in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Wednesday that Lachlan Murdoch is entitled to separation pay equal to the salary and bonus he received for fiscal year 2005, which ended June 30.

While the filing does not detail that pay, the company's previous proxy said that Lachlan Murdoch's salary was $1.8 million the previous fiscal year, and it gave a bonus schedule for fiscal year 2005 that suggested that Lachlan Murdoch and other top executives received another $5 million if the company's earnings per share hit forecasts, and as much as $7 million if EPS was up more than 30 percent.

The filing also said his father's bonus was as much as $25 million during the fiscal year if EPS for the company increased by 40 percent or more, and between $10 million and $15 million if EPS increases between 10 and 20 percent.

Analysts currently forecast that EPS will be up 12 percent in the just completed fiscal year.

The elder Murdoch received earnings of $4.5 million and a $12.5 million bonus in fiscal year 2004.
