NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Louis Cona, the publisher of Vanity Fair magazine will take on a new position in September as Vice President and publisher of The New Yorker, said Conde Nast Publications, amid several editorial shifts at the company.

Cona will take over for David Carey, who Conde Nast announced Wednesday would run a new publishing group that includes a business magazine and Web site.

Alan Katz will take over for Cona at Vanity Fair effective next month, the company said. Katz oversaw the 2004 launch of Cargo, a men's shopping and lifestyle magazine, which published reports say has been a growth standout for Conde Nast.

The New York Times reported that advertising dollars for Cargo rose more than 70 percent over the last six months.

Cona, who has been publisher of Vanity Fair since March, 2001, will shift gear from the glossy celebrity-studded magazine to more subdued fare at The New Yorker.

"I actually think that both are culture magazines," Cona told the Times, saying that it was "equally as intellectual as The New Yorker."

Prior to joining Vanity Fair, Cona was publisher of Time Inc.'s (up $0.09 to $17.64, Research) In Style magazine. Time Inc. is a unit of Time Warner, the parent company of CNN/Money.

As for the new monthly business publication, Wall Street Journal veteran Joanne Lipman will head the project. (Full story.)

No launch date has been set and the magazine still has no title.

Lipman, the Wall Street Journal's deputy managing editor, worked at the paper for 22 years and was credited with founding its Weekend Journal section, which she edited, and its Personal Journal section.

David Carey, who will be president of the new group, was founding publisher of SmartMoney, a joint venture between the Wall Street Journal and The Hearst Corporation.

Conde Nast Publications, a unit of Advance Magazine Group, currently publishes eighteen magazines.
