There's a thin line between being offended and being sold.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - What did it take to offend us in 2005? Svedka the party robot and her fur-bikini-wearing friends didn't raise many eyebrows, but a spoof of congressional indecency hearings got yanked off the air after one showing.

Here's a round-up of 2005's over-the-top ads. Some, like a Sony ad that showed a man wearing a crown of thorns in the shape of the PlayStation logo, were pulled after complaints.

Others received complaints, but ran anyway -- the Parents Television Council complained about a TV ad showing Paris Hilton soaping up a car in a skimpy swimsuit, but the burger chain that ran it made no apologies. Others were overtly sexual but didn't seem to raise the ire of decency advocates.
