3 stocks: One to duck, two to eye
The opportunity is gone on Netflix ... but Goodyear and Perry Ellis have some promise.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Rally on! Really seems like it's one of those 'I better get on board quick' rallies if you ask me. And don't even ask me about the Indian stock market, up 24 percent this year ...

NETFLIX: Nice to be a customer, but this train has officially left the station. Company is suing Blockbuster (Research) over what is says is infringement of its online strategies and software. Specifically the wish list. Yes NFLX (Research) makes money, and the stock has come back from single digits to $27 over the past year, but it is an expensive stock. And what is the future here? Psst: downloads coming -- though still years away.

GOODYEAR TIRE AND RUBBER: Have you been to Akron lately? It's all about tires of course. And it's a tough environment. Crude oil, from which 60 percent of every tire is derived, is up some three-fold over the past three plus years, while the price of natural rubber, of which tires make up 28 percent, has risen nearly four times. And then again the car biz ain't so hot. Today the company says it will be closing factories in the Europe and cutting 1,500 jobs. All about cutting costs. Goodyear is the world's Number Three tire maker with a 17 percent share, after France's Michelin (20 percent), and Japan's Bridgestone (18 percent). Bottom line, I like this stock (Research). Came back from the dead in 2003. Has a P/E of 12. And then there are the blimps.

PERRY ELLIS: Just struck a deal to make Dockers for Levi Strauss. Miami-based Perry has obviously been around for a while and the brand is a bit long in the tooth. But that may be good news. Unlike some hot new retail name that is sure to crash at some point, PERY (Research) is seasoned. Company has other businesses like Munsingwear and makes private labels for Wal-Mart and Target. Founding Feldenkreis family still owns 60 percent of the company which it bought from the designer. (The designer passed away in '86.) Stock is not very expensive either. A little mad money perhaps?

LOOSE CHANGE: Of GM, Leon Russell, and Delta. These Google alerts are wild. For instance I wrote about those three topics recently and what I assume to be alerts (Google or otherwise) sent my pieces around cyberspace and immediately, fans of the above came back in force to smack me via email. (In the case of Leon I was positive, just said he looked old, which he does.....Hey, congrats to the male Gators and the female Terrapins. (So much for my picks!) All reptiles all the time. Guess the mammals got beat up. (Is a Blue Devil a mammal?)
