Amazon 'one-click' feature seen questioned
New Zealander says online retailer may not own rights to shopping convenience, according to paper.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Online retailer Amazon.com faces the possibility of no longer having the rights to its "one-click" shopping feature now that it faces a re-examination of its original patent, according to a report published Thursday.

Originally granted in 1999, the patent was called into question by a New Zealand actor who had an unsatisfactory experience with the company, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The "one-click" feature, which allows customers to shop without having to enter their shipping and billing information every time they make a purchase, is said to have "substantial new question of patentability," a patent examiner told the paper.

A spokeswoman for Amazon told the paper that the company was confident its patent would be upheld.

"We welcome the opportunity to re-validate what we believe is an important innovation in ecommerce," Patricia Smith told the Journal.
