Jessica Simpson download calls your name Epic Records' new 'Custom Cuts' program allows listeners to pick one of 500 names to insert into Simpson's new single. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Jessica Simpson fans can now own a single in which the singer calls out their name. On Yahoo Music or JessicaSimpson.com, fans will be able to purchase a version of Simpson's new single "A Public Affair" with one of 500 different names inserted into the lyrics.
The single became available Tuesday on Yahoo Music and will be on Simpson's site on July 25th. If the person's name is on a list of 500 names, it will be immediately available for download. If the person's name is not listed, the song will be delivered in one to three weeks. The MP3 will play on all portable devices, including the iPod. Nearly all MP3s sold on the Internet contain digital rights management restrictions that allow them to be played only on a specific player. Because of the customized nature of the song, Epic is making "A Public Affair" an exception to this practice and releasing it in an open - or universally accessible - MP3 format. CNN had earlier mentioned a USA Today article that said the song's format was the first of its kind. According to an Epic Records spokeswoman, the company is only releasing the open MP3 as part of the Simpson promotion and is not changing its policy on digital rights management. Simpson's fifth album, "A Public Affair," will be released on August 29th. Related: Apple beats Street, stock jumps |
