Friday's late-moving stocks Among active issues: General Electric, Microsoft , Home Depot, UnumProvident. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Here are some of Friday's market-moving stocks: Acme Packet Inc (up $5.85 to $15.35, Charts)., which makes computer networking equipment, rose in its market debut a day after pricing above a forecast range. Advancis Pharmaceuticals Corp. (down $0.85 to $4.38, Charts) on Friday forecast a bigger loss for 2006 because of a slower-than-expected launch of an antibiotic. FMS Financial Corporation (up $4.82 to $31.57, Charts), said Friday it agreed to be bought by Beneficial Mutual Bancorp, the parent of Beneficial Mutual Savings Bank, for about $183.2 million. General Electric Company (down $0.38 to $35.84, Charts), the No. 2 stock in the world by market value, reported early Friday it earned 49 cents a share, in line with Wall Street forecasts, on strong revenue. Home Depot, Inc. (down $1.04 to $36.86, Charts), is understood to be poised to enter China thanks to a tie-up with Chinese chain HomeWay worth about 80 million pounds ($148.6 million), according to a British newspaper report. Jackson Hewitt Tax Services Inc. (up $1.94 to $29.95, Charts), the second largest U.S. tax preparer, said Friday its board of directors authorized the buyback of up to $200 million of stock in a multiyear repurchase program. Microsoft Corporation (up $0.19 to $28.41, Charts) told the European Commission it will not delay shipments of its new Vista operating system, despite regulatory disputes there. Protective Life Corporation (down $0.80 to $46.22, Charts) was downgraded from "buy" to "neutral" by UBS, noting near-term pressures, including limited excess capital and tighter investment spreads. Saic Inc (up $3.22 to $18.22, Charts), which provides engineering and technical services to the U.S. military and government agencies, raised $1.1 billion with one of the largest public offerings of the year. Unumprovident Corp. (up $1.58 to $21.46, Charts) shares surged on speculation the company could be the target of a takeover, possibly by Canada's Sun Life Financial Inc. |
