(down $2.34 to $18.16, Charts) lowered its quarterly outlook Monday owing to lower than expected revenue from its Junkfood and Delta businesses and weak margins. Eaton Corporation (up $4.65 to $74.95, Charts) reported a better than expected 25 percent increase in third-quarter earnings on strong sales. W.W. Grainger, Inc. (up $1.86 to $72.38, Charts) reported Monday that third-quarter net income rose 18.6 percent on solid demand from industrial and government customers. JLG Industries, Inc. (up $6.77 to $27.52, Charts) will be acquired by Oshkosh Truck for $3.2 billion, or $28 per share, as part of an expansion into complementary markets. Labranche & Co Inc. (down $1.83 to $9.22, Charts), the New York Stock Exchange's largest market maker, said third-quarter profit fell, hurt by rising margin interest expenses. Mattel, Inc. (up $0.69 to $21.39, Charts) said Monday third-quarter profit rose, helped by sales of its TMX Elmo plush red doll and its Barbie fashion doll. Open Solutions Inc. (up $7.38 to $37.66, Charts), a maker of software for financial institutions, is expected to be acquired for $787 million by private equity firms Providence Equity Partners and the Carlyle Group, according to a source. Sumtotal Sys Inc. (down $1.08 to $6.40, Charts), a provider of business performance technologies and services, forecast a wider third-quarter net loss Monday as a result of higher costs, mainly in its services business. Vical Inc (up $0.12 to $5.22, Charts) said it expects to sell about 2.5 million shares in a registered direct offering at a price of $5.02 per share. |
