Thursday's late-moving stocks Exxon, Comcast, and Starwood among active issues. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Here are some stocks that were moving in late trading Thursday: Astrazeneca Plc (down $4.99 to $61.38, Charts) shares plunged after the company said a stroke drug failed in a key trial, despite healthy earning news. Comcast Corp New (up $1.24 to $40.00, Charts) cited strong subscriber growth and tax gains related to transactions with Adelphia and Time Warner that helped drive healthy quarterly earnings. The Dow Chemical Company (up $0.57 to $40.72, Charts) reported quarterly earnings increased, helped by price increases for its products, while the company also announced a $2 billion share buyback program. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide (down $0.74 to $60.56, Charts) posted third-quarter earnings topping Wall Street expectations, but the company's 2007 profit forecast missed expectations. Royal Dutch Shell Plc (up $1.82 to $69.46, Charts) reported higher earnings Thursday excluding special items that topped forecasts, while it also upped its dividend. Red Hat Inc (down $4.68 to $14.83, Charts) shares plummeted after Oracle announced Wednesday it would offer technical support to the company's Linux customers, charging less than half the price. Exxon Mobil Corp (up $0.61 to $71.62, Charts) soundly beat Wall Street estimates Thursday, reporting earnings of $10.5 billion in the quarter, making it the second highest quarterly profit ever for a U.S. firm. |
