(up $2.15 to $45.38, Charts), the parent company of United Airlines is reportedly in talks about a possible acquisition of Continental Airlines. Bankrupt Northwest Airlines can block any deal for Continental, though, by right of the so-called "golden share" it holds in Continental. Celanese (up $1.17 to $23.83, Charts) announced Wednesday it agreed to sell its Oxo products and derivatives business to a private equity firm for $630 million and set a target for 2007 earnings. Apple (up $2.35 to $88.49, Charts) shares climbed Wednesday after analysts at Morgan Stanley raised their price target on the stock. Additionally, Midwest Air (up $1.71 to $10.79, Charts) shares soared after AirTran said it has made an offer to buy the company for about $210 million in a deal that would merge the two regional air carriers. Atmel (up $0.58 to $5.86, Charts) surged in active Nasdaq trading after the chipmaker announced job cuts and said it was selling certain facilities as part of a restructuring. |
