Boeing to fight jamming - report

The aerospace firm is offering to install antijamming technology to protect satellites from terrorists, hostile governments.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Boeing Co. is offering to install advanced antijamming technology on some future commercial satellites for the first time as protection against terrorists and hostile governments, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The aerospace firm's effort to provide antennas, which military and spy satellites currently use, to prevent jamming is being supported by the industry and the Pentagon, the Journal said.

According to the Journal, satellite operators have expressed interest and are discussing the use of the technology to safeguard commercial fleets in orbit against video, data, or voice interference.

Costs have not been disclosed and Boeing (Charts) is actively discussing the technology with at least one unnamed commercial customer, the paper said.
