KFC rolls out zero trans fat chicken

The fast food chain says its restaurants nationwide will not use artery-clogging oil with chicken, side dishes.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. fast-food chain KFC announced Monday that its restaurants nationwide will serve its fried chicken with zero grams of trans fat per serving.

The restaurant said it pushed to remove the artery-clogging oil during a six-month transition process, in which the company switched from the use of partially hydrogenated oil to a low linolenic soybean oil.

The zero grams of trans fat menu includes all varieties of KFC's fried chicken and many side items.

Other restaurants, including Wendy's (up $0.14 to $37.80, Charts), McDonald's (down $0.50 to $48.45, Charts, Fortune 500), Starbucks (down $0.13 to $31.37, Charts, Fortune 500), and Burger King (up $0.37 to $23.82, Charts), have pledged to eliminated trans fat nationwide.  Top of page
