NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Producer Mel Brooks is charging a record high of $450 a seat for a weekend performance of his new Broadway musical, 'Young Frankenstein,' according to a newspaper report.
Tickets to the musical production which is to premiere in October and is based on Brooks' 1974 filmed comedy classic, will also be available at the premium rate of $375, according to the New York Post.
Prices for weekday shows will range from $350-$275, the newspaper reported. The lower priced tickets are $100 more than the next most expensive productions currently on Broadway, ' Wicked' and 'Jersey Boys,' the newspaper reported.
Group ticket sales agents and ticket brokers, who buy up tickets in advance to resell them to theater goers at higher prices, are concerned they will lose money if customers refuse to pay such high prices, the Post reported.
Brooks is famous for as a directing such comedies as 'Blazing Saddles' in 1974 and 'History of the World: Part I' in 1982, according to the Internet Movie Database.
