Stocks step upU.S. markets gain a little ground at open of holiday-shortened session.NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Wall Street began a shortened session Tuesday with some modest gains, as investors considered some acquisition news. The Dow Jones industrial average and Nasdaq composite index were up 0.2 percent. The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged up 0.1 percent. Among companies making headlines Tuesday morning were Oracle (Charts, Fortune 500), Google (Charts, Fortune 500), ConocoPhillips (Charts, Fortune 500), Caterpillar (Charts, Fortune 500), Ford Motor (Charts, Fortune 500) and Wendy's (Charts). |
