Stocks mixed at market open

Dow lower, other indexes flat as markets emerge from holiday break.


NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stocks were mixed at Thursday's open, as investors emerged ambivalent from a day and a-half holiday.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.2 percent. The Nasdaq composite index rose less than a point. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down a point.
