Wall St. steps forward at open

U.S. markets higher as investors consider deals, positive earnings reports.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stocks gained at Monday's open on some deal announcements and solid earnings reports.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.3 percent. The Nasdaq composite index was up 0.4 percent. The Standard & Poor's 500 index advanced 0.3 percent.
