Toolmaker recalls 800,000 power saws

Skil brand circular saws can get stuck in the 'on' position, posing risk of laceration.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Robert Bosch Tool Corp. and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Wednesday announced a recall of more than 800,000 Skil-brand power circular saws due to laceration risk.

The CPSC said it has learned of no injuries but said it has received reports that the trigger can get stuck in the "on" position. The safety agency said that the saw can also be turned on without the use of a safety lock-out, posing a risk of injury.

The CPSC said the recall includes about 811,000 saws.

Robert Bosch Tool Corp. said it would fix the problem for current owners free of charge.

The saw was sold at home-improvement retailers and independent hardware stores between January 2002 and December 2006 for between $70 and $80.

The Skil branded saws were made in the United States. A host of consumer products made in China have been recalled in recent months, including everything from pet food to tires and toothpaste.

The CPSC said consumers should stop using the saws immediately and contact the firm for instructions at (866) 761-5572 or www.skil.com. Top of page
