U.S. stocks gain ground at openMarkets push forward amid some bright signs concerning the economy.NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stocks opened higher Tuesday as investors saw some hope in economic reports, including one on employment. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.3 percent. The Nasdaq composite index added 0.6 percent. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was 0.2 percent higher. Among stocks in the news Tuesday: Countrywide Financial (Charts, Fortune 500), McDonald's (Charts, Fortune 500), Wal-Mart Stores (Charts, Fortune 500), United Retail Group (Charts), ImClone Systems (Charts) and Take-Two Interactive Software (Charts). |
