How can I start a business to help disabled workers find jobs?

Committed to giving back? Here's how to start.

By David Rippe
CEO, Celestia International

(FSB Online) -- Dear FSB: I want to start a business in vocational rehabilitation counseling to help citizens with disabilities find and keep employment. What areas of this field are profitable? Is the demand for such a service strong and fast-growing, and what are some useful resources to help me learn more about it?

Dear Jorge: I applaud your desire to give back. There is little doubt, as baby boomers age, that there will be a need for more health and vocational rehabilitative services. There are also many younger people who need such help, because of wartime injuries and other circumstances.

Every state has an office committed to serving those in need. Check out this portal site listing the state offices of vocational rehabilitation. Studying the services they offer will give you an idea of how you can be most useful to the population you want to serve. Top of page
