More toys recalled on lead paint hazard

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- About 380,000 Galaxy Warriors toy figures are being recalled due to surface paints containing excessive levels of lead, according to a warning by the Consumer Product Safety Commission Wednesday.

The posable spaceman figures, made in China and distributed by Plainfield, N.J.-based Henry Gordy International, were sold at Family Dollar Stores (Charts, Fortune 500) nationwide from January 2006 to October 2007 for about $1.

About 380,000 Galaxy Warriors spaceman figures are being recalled due to surface paints with potentially hazardous levels of lead.

The 4½-inch-tall toys, which come with two accessories, were sold in various colors including yellow, gray, silver, blue, green, gold, black and red.

Consumers should take the recalled toys away from children immediately and return them to Henry Gordy International for a full refund plus postage, the commission said. For additional information, consumers can contact Henry Gordy at (888) 790-2700.

Stepped-up efforts at detecting lead paint in toys have prompted a number of recent recalls, many involving toys manufactured in China and sold by Mattel (Charts, Fortune 500).

Exposure to lead, which accumulates in the body over time, is associated with aggressive behavior, brain damage and other serious health problems.
