NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stocks were mixed at the start of trading Monday as investors responded to Yahoo's rejection of Microsoft's takeover bid.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.3 percent. The Nasdaq composite index rose 0.1 percent. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was little changed.

Among stocks in the news Monday:

Yahoo: The Internet search engine company formally rejected a $45 billion unsolicited bid from Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500), saying the offer is not in the best interest of shareholders. Stock (YHOO, Fortune 500)

Bank of America, Chevron: The companies will be added to the Dow Jones industrial average effective Feb. 19, replacing Altria (MO, Fortune 500) and Honeywell (HON, Fortune 500). Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500), Chevron (CVX, Fortune 500)
