Gas prices scale new record
Nationwide average price of regular unleaded rises to a fresh all-time high of $3.289 a gallon, according to AAA survey.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Gasoline prices rose overnight to set another record high, a AAA survey showed Thursday.
The average price of regular unleaded rose two-tenths of a cent to a national average of $3.289 a gallon, exceeding the previous record set Monday, according to AAA's Web site.
Regular cost $3.168 a gallon on average at this time last month and $2.70 a year ago.
Pump prices have been on a record-setting run as the price of crude oil has held above $100 a barrel.
The average price-per-gallon of diesel fuel fell two-tenths of a cent to $4.023.
Diesel averaged $3.681 a gallon last month and $2.865 a year ago.
The high price of diesel fuel has been a major concern for workers in the trucking industry. Trucking companies, and especially independent truckers, are increasingly faced with high fuel costs that can drive them out of business.
California overtook Hawaii for the state with the most expensive gas. Prices for regular unleaded in California jumped to $3.663 per gallon.
New Jersey was the only state to see gas prices below $3.10 a gallon. Prices fell two-tenths of a cent in that state to $3.044 a gallon.
The AAA survey, updated daily, tracks prices at roughly 80,000 service stations across the country. It is conducted for the group by Oil Price Information Service.
