NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Apple said their new ultracompact USB power adapter is a safety hazard and should not be used anymore.
The company issued a statement saying that under certain circumstances, the adaptor's metal prongs can break off and remain in the outlet, "creating a risk of electric shock."
While the statement said there have been no injuries as a result of the faulty adaptor yet, Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) said it has received numerous complaints of detached blades.
The adaptor has been available for sale in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico and various countries in Latin America.
The company will replace any ultracompact USB power adapter free of charge for a new, redesigned adapter. Replacements will be available starting Friday, Oct. 10, either via the Web or in an Apple store. ![]()
