Overseas markets higher in pre-holiday trade
Hong Kong ends with an advance; Paris and London up in early activity. Tokyo and Frankfurt closed.
ATLANTA (CNN) -- Most Asian markets finished in positive territory Wednesday during limited trading in the final session of a dismal year.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng picked up 1.1%, while the Shanghai Composite was off 0.2%. Mumbai's BSE SENSEX gained 0.3% and the Taiwan Weighted index was up a fraction.
Markets in Tokyo, Seoul and Australia were closed headed into the New Year's holiday.
In Europe, London's FT-100 gained 0.9% and Paris' CAC-40 added 1% at the start of half-day sessions. Frankfurt was closed for the holiday. ![]()
