New GM logo? Think again

Despite reports, GM is not changing the color of its logo to green and will keep the General Motors name as it exits bankruptcy.

Don't believe what you read: GM will not change the color of its corporate logo.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- There are a lot of changes at the "new" General Motors. Billions less debt. Fewer plants. Fewer workers.

But at least two things will stay the same: The name and its iconic blue logo.

Ahead of Friday's announcement about the GM's emergence from a six-week trip through bankruptcy court, some news outlets reported that the company would change to a green logo from its traditional blue color.

The reports suggested it would be part of the century-old automaker's plans to emphasize a new environmentally-friendlier product line.

There were even reports that GM might change the corporate name itself, perhaps following the course of other major global automakers and take its best-known brand name, Chevrolet, as its corporate name.

But CEO Fritz Henderson denied either plan was in the works, and that he was surprised by wire service reports Thursday that a change in the logo was imminent.

He said a lot of people at GM are exploring a lot of ideas for how to market the company.

But changing the logo is not in play. "It is not on my desk to change, and I don't have any plans to do it." To top of page
