NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Rental car companies Hertz, Enterprise and Avis announced Wednesday that they will temporarily stop renting Toyota vehicles affected by recent recalls.
Enterprise Holdings will remove all Toyota and Pontiac Vibe vehicles under recall for a sticking gas pedal from its North America fleet, effective immediately, the company said in a statement.
The affected vehicles make up about 4% of Enterprise's fleet of Alamo Rent A Car, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental brands, the company said in a statement.
"We recognize that these actions will inconvenience a number of our current rental customers and may impact the availability of vehicles in the coming weeks," Matt Darrah, executive vice president of North American operations for Enterprise Holdings, said in a statement. "We are moving as quickly as possible to minimize any disruption to our customers."
Hertz (HTZ, Fortune 500) said it will also suspend the rental of Toyotas that have been recalled, and the company is working with Toyota to make repairs as soon as possible.
Avis Budget Group (CAR, Fortune 500) said Wednesday it will stop renting the 20,000 cars recalled by Toyota (TM) from its fleets in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
Toyota's recall due to a sticking gas pedal, announced last week, has affected a total of 2.3 million vehicles and is being expanded to include an undisclosed number of vehicles in Europe.
This is separate from the automaker's recall of 5.3 million vehicles to fix a problem in which the gas pedal can become caught on the edge of the removable floormat.
Hertz and Avis did not specify which recall prompted the removal of Toyotas from their fleets. ![]()
