"Entrepreneur" is Barbie's latest gig, and she's got the essential startup tools: A smartphone, tablet and briefcase.

Barbie probably boasts the most diverse resume in history. And after sailing through 150 careers, her newest gig is an entrepreneur.

Mattel unveiled Barbie Entrepreneur for its "I can be" line at this week's American International Toy Fair in New York.

It's the first time in her 55-year history that Barbie takes on this role, said Mattel (MAT) spokeswoman Michelle Chidoni.

The four versions of the doll, representing different ethnicities, sports an elegant pink sheath dress and the essential tools of startup life: A smartphone, tablet and briefcase.

"We always try to make career Barbie a reflection of the times," said Chidoni. "Women entrepreneurs are more prevalent now and they're growing in number. [It's] a great way to encourage girls to also learn about this role."

Barbie Entrepreneur will hit stores in June, priced at $12.99.

In 2010, Mattel launched the "I can be" line of career-oriented Barbies to showcase modern-day careers for women. The first Barbie in that line was a computer engineer, followed by president and an astronaut.

Chidoni said Mattel is also partnering with various organizations, including the Girl Scouts, to create video stories of successful female entrepreneurs. These will be available in the summer on Barbie.com and on Barbie's YouTube channel.
