No wonder New Yorkers seem to be in such a hurry: They've got the worst commutes in the country.
Workers in the Big Apple have the highest average commute time in the country at nearly 35 minutes one way, according to a report from Trulia that analyzed data from the Census Bureau's 2014 American Community Survey.
East Coast workers tend to spend the most time getting to and from work with seven of the top 10 metros located near the Atlantic Ocean.

"Where you have a high concentration of jobs located in a central area, no matter where you live ... you are going to be commuting some distance," said David Weidner, managing editor for housing economic research at Trulia.
Los Angeles ranked 14th with an average commute time of 28 minutes, while it took San Francisco workers 27 minutes to get to work.
Renters tend to face slightly shorter commutes than homeowners, according to the study. In 43 of the top 50 cities, renters spent less time getting to and from work.

Workers in Buffalo, N.Y., have the shortest commutes at 20 minutes on average.

Newark, NJ: 31.1 minutes
Chicago, IL: 30.8 minutes

Oakland, CA: 29.9 minutes
Riverside-San Bernardino, CA: 29.8 minutes
Baltimore, MD: 29.4 minutes
Atlanta, GA: 29.2 minutes
