BMW Hydrogen-7 BMW will test a fleet of these hydrogen-powered 7-series sedans by placing them in the hands of 100 "ordinary" drivers. Of those, 25 of the carefully prescreened "ordinary" drivers will be in the United States. The Hydrogen 7 is not a fuel cell vehicle. It doesn't make electricity from hydrogen. Instead, it burns it. One of the drawbacks of using hydrogen as a fuel is that it's hard to find a place to fill up. At least for now. So the Hydrogen 7 also burns gasoline, which is stored in a separate fuel tank.
