Ford Airstream The Ford Airstream, a crossover SUV, was inspired by the Airstream trailers and the "optimistic future" in the film "2001: A Space Odyssey." Features such as a floating instrument panel, touch-sensitive controls and a multifunction single-gauge display emphasize the futuristic theme. Each of the Airstream's orange-trimmed windows is a different shape. The doors are also asymmetrical. Shown at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, the Airstream is powered by the HySeries Drive plug-in hybrid series that was later to be shown in drivable form in the HySeries Ford Edge at the Washington D.C. Auto Show.
