The new xB: Scion's icon loses rough edges

The new xB, on sale now, is more powerful and smoother-riding. But Scion was known for not appealing to everyone.

xB inside
As with any Toyota product, the xB's new interior feels solidly built. There is a stereo input for an iPod and another for whatever other MP3 player you may have.
xB inside
The new xB keeps its instrument panel in the middle, between the driver and passenger seats, just where it is on the current version.

High-perched front seats offer a good view of the road, but a narrow, upright windshield combined with a roofline that slopes down toward the front combine to keep a broad strip of ceiling in your line of sight. It gives the xB a bit of an armored car feel.

The new xB is a full foot longer than the old version. It's also a bit wider and exactly the same height. All of that translates into more storage space, but it makes the xB feel more like a crossover SUV than a cheap, light-weight van.
