It's hard - for serious collectors and non-collectors alike - to miss the extreme sensuousness of pre-war French car design. And this Delage, the show car for the 1934 Salon Paris, was a particularly beautiful example.
Delage's D8 series was extremely well-received, and this, the later Sport derivation (although in fact nearly a whole new car), was the pinnacle. The deVillars bodywork, finished in white, represented speed in motion for its time; the carry-over of the exterior color to the interior - for instance, the white steering wheel - is the sort of detailing that makes such cars so valuable today.
Its sale at Pebble Beach marked the first time in at least 50 years that the car had been publicly displayed.
