50 years of Toyota in the U.S.

On October 31, 1957, Toyota officially opened for business in the United States. The American auto business hasn't been the same since.

It might seem strange to see a Pontiac in a gallery about Toyota.

But the Vibe is the product of a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors called New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. Toyota's version of the Vibe is called the Matrix.

NUMMI's California factory makes the Toyota Corolla, Toyota Tacoma and the Vibe. The Matrix is produced in Canada..

Redesigned versions of the Vibe and Matrix will be unveiled in the next few months for 2009 model year.
