50 years of Toyota in the U.S.

On October 31, 1957, Toyota officially opened for business in the United States. The American auto business hasn't been the same since.

Cressida

In 1975 Toyota passed Volkswagen to become America's biggest auto importer. In 1977, it introduced the Cressida luxury sedan to the U.S. market. It had a 2.6-liter 6-cylinder engine and was available as a sedan or wagon.

The Cressida, which was eventually replaced by the Avalon, represents an early step by Toyota into the luxury car realm before the company created the seperate Lexus brand in 1989.
