New Jeep Liberty weirdly appealing

Redesigned Jeep Liberty takes weaknesses that make the Dodge Nitro a dud and creates a fun off-roader that's a decent daily driver.

The Jeep Liberty's "killer app" is the Sky Slider Roof. If you get a Liberty, the Sky Slider will be the best $1,200 you've ever spent.

You can get a sunroof on almost any car. Big deal. You get a hole over your head. With the Sky Slider, the entire roof peels back in either direction, from the front or the back. Put down the windows and it's like driving a Wrangler with the roof taken off, except all you had to was press a few buttons.

And unlike a Wrangler, or any convertible car, you can do this at any speed. If you decide you want the experience of open-air driving while you're blasting down the turnpike at 75, go right ahead. (Temperatures were near freezing when I tested this vehicle, so I didn't actually try letting the wind in at 75 miles per hour. If it wouldn't have resulted in immediate hypothermia, I would have, though.)

The Liberty is also amazingly quiet with the Sky Slider closed. There's no wind noise and the inside stays toasty warm on cold days. (That, I can personally attest to.)
