Is a point-and-shoot good enough, or should I upgrade to a fancy digital SLR?
Compact cameras deliver great images - and they fit in your pocket. Digital single lens reflex (SLR) cameras offer swappable lenses and fast shooting, but they're bulky and expensive: Think $700 at the low end.
How many megapixels do I need?
You'll want at least six. But the good news is that's where today's point-and-shoots start, so you don't really need to worry.
Should I buy a printer?
Depends. The cost per print is about the same as photo-sharing Web sites like KodakGallery.com. You'll gain convenience printing at home, but you'll also have to shell out for the machine.
Are digital cameras still slow?
Sadly, yes. Lag time between shots can be as much as two seconds - more if you're using the zoom. Serious action shooters should consider entry-level SLRs.
