12 sultans of style

From iconic designers to luxury group titans, power has never looked so good. Fortune traveled the world to photograph the men and women who personify the business of style.

The Doyenne
The Doyenne
Designer, home-shopping guru, muse, comeback queen: Diane Von Furstenberg is all that and more. Her iconic wrap dress, first a hit in the 1970s, helped revive her business 20 years later. Her privately held company did a reported $110 million in sales last year. And as president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Von Furstenberg (who is married to IAC chief Barry Diller) leads the trade organization that awards her industry's equivalent of the Oscars.

Photographed in her store in New York City's Meatpacking District
