"A broken promise"
Much of the labor strife at American Airlines boils down to what the pilots say was a broken promise.

Four years ago, when they voluntarily gave up 23 percent of their pay and other benefits to help the airline stave off bankruptcy, they expected management would share the pain.

Instead top executives of American and parent AMR Corp. have received about a quarter-billion dollars in AMR stock.
