Bruttles, the flagship product of Spokane, Wash., candy company Bruttles, are flaky, chocolate-dipped squares of soft butter brittle made with finely ground cashews. Carol Measel, 55, recently opened a retail store after 15 years of helping her aunt sell the candy. Created in 1951 for a denture-wearing customer who complained about the tough texture of regular brittle, Bruttles also sells a variation made from peanuts. Today, the company turns out 1,000 pounds of the candy a day during busy seasons.
