Cards that pay big-time rewards

Want cash, discounts or air miles? These cards give you the most.

If you're a skinflint:
Chase Freedom Visa Card
Rate: Introductory APR of 0 percent for six months, then 12.24 percent variable rate
What do you get? Well, for ordinary purchases, an unimpressive 1 percent cash back, but Chase will up the rebate to 3 percent for purchases at supermarkets, gas stations and fast-food restaurants.

Unlike with the AmEx card, however, you can't drum up scads of reward cash: After you spend $600 during any given monthly billing cycle, the reward slips to 1 percent.
