Virginia, indeed, is for lovers and lovers have been for Blacksburg ever since the town's founding in 1798. Since then, Blacksburg has had a rich history both good and bad; most recently the unimaginable tragedy that struck when a Virginia Tech student shot and killed 32 people and injured at least 15 others during a campus rampage the morning of April 16. The town has been struggling to cope since then, and its reputation as a place of amazing scenic beauty where young and old alike have otherwise managed to mesh in relative piece will be its ticket back to health.
