Even though the Clift's historic Redwood Room, which first opened in the 30s after prohibition, is newly restored and redesigned, it maintains old world elegance thanks to the original redwood paneling and carved redwood bar.
But trendy San Franciscans flock there on Thursdays to enjoy the spot's contemporary touches like the Philippe Starck furniture and an array of digital artwork displayed on plasma TVs around the room. A backlit wall behind the bar displays a vast selection of top shelf liquors, but patrons recommend the classic martini, adorned with two perfect blue cheese-stuffed olives.
