Deals fall apart at an alarming speed. SLM Corp., better known as Sallie Mae, files suit against a group led by private equity firm J.C. Flowers after the buyers pull out of the takeover.

The $2.2 billion buyout of database manager Acxiom is called off. KKR and Goldman Sachs back out of their buyout of Harman International Industries and instead agree to invest $400 million in the company.
