Dirt-cheap car tech for the masses

New technology option represents the next step in talking, texting and playing music in your car.

Value proposition
For those with sophisticated gadgets and cell phones - or those who think they might get them - Sync could be a valuable feature.
Value proposition
Many cars now have Bluetooth cell phone connections and even USB ports and iPod connections but, Sync is an impressive next step in bringing all these features together in an easy-to-use and inexpensive package.

Another important factor has to do with the car's resale value. The problem with getting the latest technology is that it probably won't be so hot when you sell your car in five years. By then you might be stuck with the equivalent of an 8-track tape player.

But when you go to sell a car with Sync, chances are the system will be just as up-to-date as the next owner's cell phone or music player. There's very little hardware in that can go out of date.

And it really is a plug-and-play system that doesn't require shuffling through a two-inch thick user's manual to figure out.

But Sync's value is also dependent on the technology that you bring to it. It might be worth getting it just in case you get a new cell phone or MP3 player next year. The way these things go, you never know what your next phone might be capable of.
