That translates to about $134, or about 44 gallons of gasoline, per year. That's nothing to shake a dipstick at, but it pales in comparison to the 160 gallons a year Camry Hybrid drivers save.
But as your Chevy salesman will point out, the Camry Hybrid's cost premium is also much higher. (And Toyota hybrids no longer qualify for federal tax incentives.)
If he's smart, the salesman will also open the trunk and show you what's inside: a bump across the back of the floor. That's the hybrid battery. Look inside the trunks of other hybrid sedans, and you'll see a battery pack taking much of the usable space.
But the best thing about the Malibu Hybrid is that its system doesn't interfere with the car's performance. It's still the nicest, most refined driving experience you'll find south of $30,000.
