All aboard! Top 10 family rides

Vehicle valuation expert Kelley Blue Book gives CNNMoney.com a first look at its picks for the best new family vehicles.

Chevrolet Tahoe
Chevrolet Tahoe
"For some families there's virtually no viable alternative to the full-size SUV," say the editors of Kelley Blue Book.

Crossover SUVs are great - they make up at least half of Kelley Blue Book's list - but you can't tow a big boat or a camper with a Mazda CX-9. If your family's idea of a weekend outing involves heavy hauling, a truck-based SUV is what you need.

The big Tahoe gets better fuel economy than most midsize truck-based SUVs, and that's just the regular version, not the Tahoe Hybrid.

And the Tahoe doesn't jar you over bumps or wallow around curves like a giant blob. Its suspension keeps the ride smooth and the driving experience even and controlled. It's as close to driving a car as you could ever get in a vehicle this size.
