Retro-mod design
For the most part, little on the outside of the car has changed from the concept version shown at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. GM designers wanted to create a modern identity for the Camaro. The new version shares its proportions (and a set of fake air vents near the rear wheels) with the classic 1969 Camaro, but the car's sharp angles are distinctly modern.

GM consulted with a group of 15 selected Camaro enthusiasts before embarking on the new design, said Camaro marketing manager John Fitzpatrick.

"We bought them back a couple of months ago to see if we hit their targets," Fitzpatrick said.

The car shown here is the 2010 Camaro RS/SS. RS denotes an appearance package available on both V6 and V8 models. It includes special high-intensity headlamps and big 20-inch wheels.

While the new Camaro shares much of its engineering with the Pontiac G8 sedan, the cars look very different. The cars share nothing in terms of their appearance and the Camaro has a longer front end and shorter back end for a more aggressive stance.
