Despite entering bankruptcy almost three years ago, Delphi continues to struggle to find a profitable path in its new life as an independent parts-maker from its one-time parent GM. Although Delphi has made agreements with its unions to reduce healthcare costs and worker wages, and has narrowed its losses since 2006, it still isn't profitable in its core business. U.S. production by GM--still Delphi's biggest customer--continues to fall.
There's some hope on the horizon, as its non-GM business picked up in 2007. But it's still a race against time to get straightened out-- or its creditors may get tired of waiting and seek liquidation.
